For those looking to venture off the beaten path, Lochaber offers incredible opportunities for ski touring and backcountry exploration. The slopes of Aonach Mor, and the Grey Corries are prime locations for touring, offering challenging ascents and rewarding descents through pristine alpine terrain. These routes require technical skills, avalanche awareness, and appropriate safety equipment, making them ideal for experienced skiers or those guided by professionals.
Backcountry enthusiasts will also appreciate the untamed beauty of Glencoe, where steep gullies and open bowls provide exciting terrain for adventurous skiers and snowboarders. The nearby Blackwater Reservoir area offers quieter routes, perfect for those seeking solitude and untouched snow.
Winter sports in Lochaber demand careful preparation. Check weather and avalanche forecasts, dress in warm, waterproof layers, and ensure you have the right gear for your chosen activity. Beginners can book lessons or guided tours, while advanced enthusiasts will find the terrain diverse enough to challenge their skills.
